girlsdontcry's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the Dutch for cheese and ham sandwich I may have set a record for least debauched visit to Amsterdam since [insert historic fact about Dutch puritans that I couldn't be bothered to absorb here]. At the same time, I possibly consumed more cheese and ham sandwiches during a 12-hour period than anyone else ever has. But there just didn't seem to be that much else to eat. I can report that in Amsterdam they have an equally creative approach to naming Greek restaurants (Zorba the Griek and Aphrodite). In a pancake place (where I ate a cheese and ham sandwich), I shared a table with boys so young that they ordered glasses of milk with their breakfast. But somehow they were still old enough to be on their own in Amsterdam, and really, if you're going to be off and doing all of that, surely you should at least have coffee with breakfast. Tonight is dinner in the 43rd best restaurant in the world. Which is somewhat less exciting than if it was at the best restaurant in the world, but infinitely more exciting than dinner at an Angus Steakhouse. I will not be eating a cheese and ham sandwich. 1:33 p.m. - 2005-05-16 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
