girlsdontcry's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hip hip hooray You know you're getting old when your favourite things to happen on your birthday involve phone calls and emails from friends you thought had long abandoned you, and an offer from a friend to knit a jumper of your choosing. Best of all was a message on my phone from my niece and nephew singing happy birthday to you. Perfectly in tune! And with "hip hip hooray" at the end. Honestly, I'm no sentimental fool, but it was so sweet. Other exciting birthday gifts: a voucher for a "hand relieving" manicure and some Australian sweets called Jaffas. Hurrah! And lots of lovely messages from you people. Thank you! I always thought that Duran Duran has something of a stranglehold on ridiculous song lyrics from the mid-1980s (cf "and your telephone's been ringing while you're dancing in the rain") but this line from Spandau Ballet's "True" is truly mystifying: "Take your seas1de arms and write the next line". Huh? Cue ridiculous impressions of "se@side arms", of course. 11:11 a.m. - 2004-08-04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
