girlsdontcry's Diaryland Diary

This is my four-leaf clover

I'm scared because my colleague starting saying something about reclaiming the exclamation mark and suddenly stopped himself... and that was what I was writing about yesterday.

Er, yes, we talk about grammar. With a certain amount of passion. And laugh at stuff like Spike Mi1ligan adding a comma so that "What's This Thing Called Love" becomes "What's This Thing Called, Love". But you know, I'm scared a bit because I do bitch about work in this.

You should be scared of the advertising industry. In a move of sheer brilliance they have said that the government shouldn't ban advertising junk food to children because, they claim, that won't help stop obesity (they're really clever at arguing that advertising doesn't increase demand, they say that it just makes people choose different brands).

Instead of banning junk-food advertising, the government should invest in a "long-term, well-funded" advertising campaign to promote healthier lifestyles.

Brilliant! More work for the ad industry. You can't argue with that sort of logic. They're saying that it can be like anti-drink driving ads, because drink-driving levels really have been cut, but is that really a viable comparison?
